So what is a co-located co-operative server then? In basic terms, it's a portion of a managed server.

  • You have your own shell account.
  • You have your own IP address.
  • You will have root equivalent administration for all the major services through web-based secure Linux tools.
  • For example, you want to run a widget server for super real-time web graphics then you can install it, you can compile it and you can run it!
  • We will help you find your feet. You don't have to be a Unix guru to join our cooperative, if you simply wish to host domains, websites and mail then this can all be done through the various graphical configuration tools.
  • If you work in the IT field then wouldn't it be great to add "Manage my own Internet server in Telehouse" to your CV?

So you have a server that is shared between 8 to 10 people. Below is a typical hardware specification. This is what you get.

  • 3.5Gb of Hard Disk space.
  • Administrator equivalent access to set up anything you can imagine.
  • 10Mbit/s access to Linx, the growing backbone of Europe.
  • 1Mbit/s international link.

Understand that this is real access. This means that there is a great deal of responsibility when you have this kind of access to a server, any Server Admin will tell you that.

You may be asking yourself why you shouldn't just go for a Web Hosting company with NT servers and 20Mb of disk space. If that's all you need, then there's no reason not to go to an alternative supplier. If, however, you need the flexibility that Crosswired offers, get in touch with us.
