What's stopping you from having your own Internet server?
Simple - the cost. Exorbitant prices plus bandwidth restrictions and
limited services. Wouldn't it be great if there were another way?
Now there is - Project Crosswired. At its heart, Crosswired co-ordinates
groups of eight to ten members using custom-built servers, powered by Linux,
located in the major internet centres around the country. The costs
are shared between the members, giving Crosswired a collective buying power
beyond the reach of individuals.
Because Crosswired is run as a co-operative and not for profit, the members
can focus on putting their part of the server to work for them - be it hosting,
services, development or any other task (within certain AUP [Acceptable Use
Policy] restrictions).
Are you right for Project Crosswired? We need members with basic to
intermediate Internet skills who can take charge of their own servers and
put them to work for themselves. We want people who can share these
skills between the rest of the members and take an active part in the decision
making for the project.
If Project Crosswired is what you've been looking for - and believe me, if
you're just looking for cheap bulk web hosting, then it isn't - contact enquiry:@:crosswired.org.uk.
Please include a brief summary of what you want Project Crosswired to
do for you, and what you can do for Crosswired.
