Crosswired was formed by both Myself (Jonathan) and Barry. Having been around computers and networks for over seven years now the day finally came when I decided I really wanted my own Internet server. The main hurdle with owning your own Internet server is COSTS!

I sat down and racked my brains for a long time, pondering over how I could have my own server and afford to keep it. Then the idea hit me, it was so obvious, with the power of PC hardware and the versatility of modern O/Ss a single server could easily accommodate several users. Why should I shoulder the expense when I could easily share a server with others?

So I put the idea to Barry (a long time friend) and on one Sunday afternoon we shaped and refined the concept of sharing a server between a group of people and formed what you see here.

The founding cooperative is running extraordinarily well. I have to protect the identity of the members, but I can say they come from all walks of life and processional trade. We have all been pleasantly surprised how well we can work together to better ourselves. Another unexpected benefit of the cooperative is the sharing of knowledge. Many of the members openly admit that joining the cooperative has been an eye opening and knowledgeable experience.

The unprecedented success of our initial cooperative has lead me to believe its worth setting up further cooperatives. As we build up the number of cooperatives we can improve such features as redundant backups for all crucial services for all members and most importantly, buying power, to ensure we always get the best server hosting deal.

Hi there, I've worked with PCs for over seven years now and have had a particular interest in networks both LAN/WAN for over five years. I've used a fair few languages too.

I enjoy doing what I do, which is why I'm co-heading the Crosswired Project with Barry.

Prior to Crosswired, I'd done software development with Delphi and other languages, built a few PC networks and servers, web sites and low level Linux sysadmin stuff.

The project has allowed me to gain experience in Linux system administration and networking to the extent that I'm now employed full-time in Linux server development.
